Beware, booking a holiday could damage your relationship?
According to new customer statistics from www.sunshine.co.uk the number one reason for cancellation of holidays is due to relationship break-ups. The research talked to more than 2000 holiday-makers found that a relationship split is the number one reason people cancel their holidays.
Ironically 12% of couples that book a romantic break do not even end up boarding the plane, let alone jetting off for their dream holiday.
It is also a costly error, as it is estimated that £96million is wasted on non-refundable deposits in the UK every year, with reasons for cancelling a holiday including separation, family bereavement and illness and even the death of a pet. Nearly 2.1% of holidays booked in the UK are eventually cancelled.
Over a third of people that split from their partner before their holiday end up changing the name on the booking to include a friend, ensuring they don’t go it alone, according to the research.
In the poll of 2,364 holiday-makers the number one reason given for cancelling holidays in the past was separation/divorce. The full top 10 is below:
1. Separation/divorce
2. Illness/injury
3. Finances
4. Family bereavement
5. Extreme weather
6. Phobias
7. War in country/Foreign office warning
8. Unforeseen work commitments
9. No longer wished to go
10. Death of a pet
So while shoppingin advance is a great way of finding a holiday bargain, there are risks attached and some less than scrupulous travel agents may try and cash in on your misfortune!
